Richard S. (Rich) Potter - Class Of 1964

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, MARCH 17, 2004

Richard S. "Rich" Potter, age 57 of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004. Rich, a lifelong resident of Hobart and a member of Hobart High School, Class of 1964, was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Michigan City Post. Rich had been an automobile service advisor and manager from 1968-2003. He was employed by Classic Oldsmobile and Classic Honda of Merrillville, Bosak Honda of Highland and Team Honda of Michigan City. Rich was an avid golfer and pistol shooter. As a member and past president of Northern Indiana International Shooting Association (NIISA), Rich qualified as an expert in pistol shooting and won many awards. He was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Church of New Chicago.

Survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandi; three children: Don (Tammi- Louise) Potter of Scott Air Force Base, IL, Julee (Jeremy) Smith of Portage and Marc Potter of Hobart; one grandson: Austin Smith of Portage; two sisters: Margaret (Gary) Whitledge of Hebron and Barb Yaros of Hobart; brother: Steve (Char) Potter of Hobart; two brothers-in-law: Tom (Pat) Kicinski of Martinsville, IN and Ken Kicinski of Sun Prairie, WS; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Rodney and Charmaine Potter and brother-in-law, Rich Yaros.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. from Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart and to Assumption B.V.M. Church at 10:00 a.m. for Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Jon J. Plavcan officiating. Burial Calvary Cemetery, Portage. American Legion service will be held on Thursday and Prayer Vigil Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Visitation Thursday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart.
