OBITUARY FROM THE MADISON.COM (WISCONSIN) WEBSITE:

Lawrence "Larry" Greischar Ph.D., of Columbus, born on March 6, 1949, died on Nov. 21, 2011, after several unsuccessful treatments for vocal chord cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Susie and brother, Bob. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gephart of Columbus; and son, Nathan of Madison; two brothers, Richard of Oak Park, Ill., and Dave of Bloomington, Ind.; and a sister, Jane of Madison.

He loved his job brain mapping in the Lab for Affective Neuroscience at the Psychology department, The Brain Imaging Lab and the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at the Waisman Center at UW-Madison. He planned to retire on Nov. 30, 2011, and had already received emeritus status. Prior to working for UW, Larry did gas and oil exploration and once did a magnetic survey to find three lost bulldozers under the ice in Antarctica. He was also a loving foster parent for Dodge County Social Services. He was an avid bicyclist, riding his bike year round and enjoying weeklong bike tours. On top of his busy schedule he enjoyed brewing award-winning beer using his own home grown hops, watching the stars, and drinking gourmet coffee. Larry will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Memorial Dec. 3, 2011, 5 p.m. at GOODMAN CENTER. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local food pantries. See jensenfuneralandcremation.com.
