John Adam Meiss, Jr., age 62, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011.

John was born in Gary, IN., Nov. 8, 1948, to John Adam Sr. and Adrienne (Yurtanas) Meiss, where he lived for part of his grade school years, before moving to Hobart. John graduated from Hobart High School in 1967, then attended Ball State University, where he was a charter member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. From there, John attended The Gemological Institute of America, beginning a forty-year career in the jewelry industry in Muncie, Carmel, Indianapolis and back to the Region.

John is survived by his fiancee, Elaine Eich, son Chad Michael (Tracy) and granddaughter, Sydney from Columbia, MO., daughter, Ashley Danielle, of Chicago, IL., and his everyday buddy, his Rottweiler, “Bubba”. Also, many, many cousins, some very special friends and neighbors. He had a passion for all sports and his extraordinary love for the Cubs, Notre Dame football, the Bears, and when his son was in town, “The Mets!”

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 10 am at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, In. with Rev. Joseph Vamos officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 3 to 8 pm.
