Martin Sensenbaugh - Class Of 1951

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, AUGUST 11, 2012:

Martin Henry Sensenbaugh, age 79, of Valparaiso passed away at home on August 4, 2012. He was born on July 11, 1933 in Hobart to John and Cecile Sensenbaugh. Martin gained his B.A. from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH and his Masters Degree in Music from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. On August 4, 1956, Martin married Harriet Swaby and remained steadfast in his love for her throughout his life.

Harriet survives, along with their children: Rebecca Sheinman of England and Jeff MacLeod-Sensenbaugh and his wife, Violet, of Elk Grove Village, IL. Martin had unwavering love for his six grandchildren: Zak, Tom, Sivan, Jack, Ryan, and William, all of whom will dearly miss him. Martin taught music at Portage High School for 31 years. During his teaching career, Martin rose to many challenges and served as Vice President, then President, and finally Adjudicator Chairman of NISBOVA and was a member of ISSMA. A very active and devout member of The First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso, Martin was the Director of the Chancel Choir for over 20 years. In his retirement, Martin was a member of the German Band and the Director of the Rusty Pipes Concert Band. He embraced both of these roles, enjoying the concerts and making many friends. Martin, still active in church, was Program Chairman of Chapter 2, helping to organize outings and lecture series for the retired church community. In spite of his health declining in recent times, Martin never complained and always displayed courage and dignity in adverse situations. All of his family will remember him as a warm, outgoing, caring, and generous person.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church, 103 Franklin St., Valparaiso, IN 46383 with Rev. Dennis Deeter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials (donations) are requested in Martin Sensenbaugh's name to either the First United Methodist Church or Rusty Pipes Concert Band to be sent to Mrs. Sue Williams, 2709 Crowsnest Dr., Hobart, IN 46342. moellerfuneralhome.com.
