Joan Govert (Richter) - Class Of 1954

OBITUARY IN NW INDIANA TIMES, APRIL 14, 2005

Joan Sylvia Richter (nee Govert) Hobart Joan Sylvia Richter (nee Govert), age 68, of Hobart, daughter of Joseph A. and Sylvia M. (nee Miller) Govert was born on August 24, 1936. She passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005.

Joan is survived by her husband of 49 years, William Richter; six daughters and four sons: Cheryl (Frank) Severa of Mishawaka, IN, Pamela (Kevin) Fitzgerald of Valparaiso, IN, Michele (Tim) Rusboldt of Blackhawk, CO, Lisa (John) Hargarten of Valparaiso, IN, David (Carol) Richter of Hobart, IN, James (Sarah) Richter of Hobart, IN, Thomas (Anna) Richter of Carmel, IN, Sylvia (Kevin) Ewing of Hobart, IN, Jeanine (Chuck) Daugherty of Naperville, IL and Paul (Kelly) Richter of Hobart, IN; 34 grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and four sisters: Irene Killigrew of Indianapolis, IN, Viola Sanderson of McKeesport, PA, Ethel Phillips of Valparaiso, IN, Elaine (Michael) Ryan of New Hope, PA, Robert (Joyce) Govert of Coatesville, PA, Donald (Martha) Govert, Norman (Becky) Govert and Alan (Janet) Govert all of Hobart, IN; sister-in-law, Marina Govert of Chapel Hill, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Victor and Gerald. Joan graduated from Hobart High School in 1954 and married William Richter of Gary on January 14, 1956.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Hobart, IN and a lifetime member of St. Bridget Church. She was employed part-time at St. Bridget Rectory. Joan was a volunteer for "Meals on Wheels" for the past 28 years. Her perpetual gift of motherhood and Christian integrity are among the treasures that will be missed by her children, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2005 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to St. Bridget Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage, IN. Visitation is Friday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart.
