James (Jim) Kellen - Class Of 1954

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, AUGUST 2, 2006:

JAMES C. KELLEN Hobart, Indiana Age 69, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006. Jim had been a life long Hobart resident and a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1954. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until 1958, stationed mainly over seas in 1958. Jim returned to Hobart to join the family owned flowershop, Kellen's Florist, which was established by Jim's parents, Neil and Marie Kellen, in May of 1928. Jim then became a co-owner with his uncle Nic Holtzmer, until his retirement, in January 2002, with 44 years of service. Jim also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 54 of Hobart. He enjoyed bowling at Hobart Lanes on the Wednesday Night Men's League and Thursday Night Kegler League.

Jim is survived by his 2 children, Christopher Kellen and Jody King; and 4 grandchildren: Sean Kellen, Wesley Kellen, Valerie "Nikki" Stutesman & Bradley Mitckess; sister, Carol (Bill) Biel of Portage; nieces, nephews, cousins and uncles. He is preceded in death by parents, Marie and Neil Kellen, wife, Joan Kellen, and sister, Marie King.

American Legion Post No. 54 will conduct a service with U.S. Air Force Military Honors, 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2006 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. Friends may call Friday 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. Phone: (219) 942-2109. wwwreesfuneralhomes.com
