Florence J. Zavacky (nee Friese), age 74, of Valparaiso passed away at VNA Hospice Tuesday, July 7, 2009 after a short illness.
A lifelong Indiana resident, she grew up in Hobart, the daughter of the late Vergil Friese and Violet Potts Friese Barlow. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Sikorski; brother, Vergil Jackson Friese; and first husband, Francis J. Lach.
She worked for the American Heart Association for 15 years. She enjoyed family gatherings, was an avid movie fan, loved flower gardening and playing her organ. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she was looking forward to the birth of her 13th in September. She had adopted several West Highland Terriers through rescue services. Current Westies Cheyenne and Cody will miss her very much.
Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Robert (Valparaiso); 5 children, Pamela Lach, Jennifer (Robert) Pielow of Omaha, NE, Laurie (Vincent) Mattioli of Merrillville, Linda (Christopher) Zyla of Valparaiso, and Robert (Michelle) Zavacky Jr. of South Bend; 1 sister, Marian Jean Friese of Denver, CO; 13 grandchildren, Daniel Pielow (Ellensburg, WA), Karen Pielow (Omaha, NE), Jillian Swisher (Jersey City, NJ), Michael Grace (Merrillville), Sarah, Rachel, Joe (Bethany) Mattioli (CA), Sarah Sims (Valparaiso), Jeffrey Sims (U.S. Navy, Port Orchard, WA), Jackson Zyla (Portage), Jeremy and Devin Zavacky (South Bend); Former brother-in-law, Ronald (Marilyn) Lach; cousins, Barbara (Robert) Krga, Pete (Mary) Sikorski and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation on Thursday, July 9th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Moeller's Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. Funeral Services on Friday, July 10th at 10:00 am at Moeller's Funeral Home with Reverend Joseph Ostafinski officiating. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St., Merrillville, IN Donations in lieu of flowers will be accepted for the American Heart Association or VNA Hospice of Valparaiso.
