Betty Greenlee (Stratton) - Class Of 1947

OBITUARY FROM THE NW INDIANA TIMES, FEBRUARY 4, 2009

Betty L. Stratton, age 79 of Hobart, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009. Betty was born October 1, 1929 in Hobart, IN to David and Cora Greenlee. Betty was a graduate of Hobart High School class of 1947. She was the owner and operator of the Clothes Trunk of Hobart and Portage locations, and was the founder of Hobart Downtown Business Association. Betty was a charter member and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hobart Pool Association. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Meshowke-To-Quah Chapter and in the early years when the YMCA came to Hobart she was a devoted volunteer. Betty was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church and was a member of the Board of Directors for Augustana Lutheran Church Foundation and serving on the Funeral Committee and Augustana Food Pantry Committee, among many others. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother always willing to help out where she was needed.

Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harlan; four children: Harlan T. (Barbara) Stratton of Scottsdale, AZ, Mark A. Stratton of Wichita, KS, Kevin (Margaret) Stratton of Valparaiso and Gail (James) McClellan of Hobart; seven grandchildren: Michael, Amanda, Abigail and Lauren Stratton, Christopher and Mathew Cannon and Amy (Todd) Winters; three great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Greenlee of Hobart. Preceded in death by her parents: David and Cora Greenlee; brother Louis Greenlee; and sister Jeanne Hogan.

Memorials may be given to Augustana Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be Friday, February 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, IN with Rev. Charles R. Strietelmeier and Vicar Adrianne Meier officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN.
