Stew Mattix was born on October 29, 1931, and died of a heart attack at age 68 on September 16, 1999. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1949. He also taught and was an administrator for over 30 years in Hobart City Schools.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Mattix, and his children, Rick, Lori, and Beth, all Hobart graduates. He also had 10 grandchildren.
