OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, JUNE 9, 2006:

ROGER A. SPRINGMAN Emily, Minnesota/ formerly Hobart, Indiana Age 68, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home. A memorial service for Roger will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2006 at St. Emily Catholic Church in Emily, Rev. Father Roman Spors to officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be with military honors at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2006, in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls. Roger Allan Springman was born on December 4, 1937, in Valparaiso, Indiana, the son of Elmer J. and Petronella (Schaafsma) Springman. He was raised and educated in Hobart, Indiana and was a graduate of Hobart High School. He had also attended Cambridge Community College. He entered the United States Navy and served his country from May of 1956 to September of 1960. After he was discharged from the Navy, he was united in marriage to Diane Talian on September 9, 1961 at Hobart, Indiana. Over the years, they had lived in Hobart, Indiana (43 years), Zimmerman, MN (15 years), Hillman, MN (3 years), until moving to Emily where they have resided the last 8 years. In Roger's earlier years, he had worked for steel mills in Indiana. He later became employed with Southland Corporation for 17 years as a maintenance supervisor. He then began an 11-year enjoyment of designing bonsai trees for Tree In a Tray. Roger retired at age 62. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking and time spent with his family.

Survivors include his best friend and loving wife, Diane, Emily, MN; children: Lon (Shari), Elk River; Jeff, unknown; Dan (Jackie), Zimmerman; Rebecca (Robert) Anderson, Pine River; Jodi (David) Miller, Maple Grove; and seven grandchildren; sister, Shirley Johnson, Lowell, IN; brothers-in-law: Ted (Mary) Talian, Orange, CA and Jerry Talian, Lithonia, GA. His parents preceded him in death.

Arrangements are with Willim-St.Onge Family Funeral Home in Pine River.
