Betty Lou Siegesmund (Radigan) - Class Of 1944

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, FEBRUARY 3, 2011:

Betty Lou Radigan, age 84 of Merrillville, passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Adolf and Lottie Siegesmund, born in Hobart on June 30, 1926. Betty Lou was a graduate of Hobart High School and Indiana University where she majored in Dietetics. After college she did her residency at Hines VA in Maywood, IL. She married the late Edward J. Radigan on October 22, 1949 in Gary and moved to Miller Beach. They raised their daughters in Miller Beach, Winter Park, FL and Merrillville. Later in life Betty Lou joined her husband in the travel industry. Both Ed and Betty Lou were avid travelers and enjoyed sharing slide shows with friends and organizations. She was also very active over the years in Hospital Guild, Beta Gamma, Chi Omega, PEO, and Meals on Wheels. Betty Lou enjoyed playing golf, bridge, bowling, spending time with family and having lunch with her dear friends. Betty Lou was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 20 years ago. Although the disease took its toll, she kept as active as possible, never complained and accepted it graciously. Her husband of 60 years cared for her and the devotion they shared was evident wherever they went.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, who passed away in September, and her daughter Beth. She will be dearly missed by her two daughters - Barb (Dave) Sheptak of Valparaiso and Carole (Kevin) King of Geneva, IL; loving brother - Dr. Kenneth Siegesmund of Kokomo; niece - Sharon (William) Bassett of Kokomo; brother-in-law - William (Charlotte) Radigan of Valparaiso; grandchildren - Nick and Eddy Sheptak and Colin, Katie and John King.

Visitation Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 7950 Marshall St., Merrillville from 10 - 12 noon. Funeral immediately following at noon. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. Burns Funeral Home, Crown Point in charge of arrangements. www.burnsfuneral.com.
