Donald "Papa Smurf" Howorth - Class Of 1944

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, AUGUST 22, 2010:

Donald L. Howorth, age 85, passed away Friday August 20, 2010. Donald graduated from Hobart High School in 1944 and retired from U.S. Steel where he worked as a pipe fitter. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Gary, Indiana, Holy Name Society, Secular Franciscan order and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. Donald will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Donald is survived by his loving family 3 sons; Daniel of Gary, David (fiancée Janice) of Valparaiso, and Denis (Jessica) of Yorktown, VA, 2 daughters; Diane (Caesar) Redoble of Las Vegas NV and Debbie (Tim) Sebesta of Valparaiso, loving grandchildren Matthew, Alex, Marisa, Nicholas, Sammy, Natalie, Jenna and Dean, step-grandchildren Bradley and Austin, 2 sisters; Betty Morgan of Valparaiso and Barbara Sailor of Homewood IL, many nieces and nephews and other loving family members. Donald's wife, Patricia M. Howorth and parents, Earl and Flora Howorth, brother, Jack Howorth and sister, Mary Segal preceded him in death.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday August 24, 2010 directly at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church located at 330 E. 45th Avenue, Gary, IN 46403 with Father Stephen Loncar officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart. Visitation for Donald will be held Monday August 23, 2010 from 2:00-9:00 with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at Rees Funeral Home 600 West Old Ridge Rd. Hobart, Indiana.
