OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, MARCH 26, 2010:

Zac Shinneman, age 23 of Hobart, passed away on March 20, 2010 in Kileen, TX. He was born on September 27, 1986 in Hobart, the son of Curt Shinneman and Barb LeRose. Zac was serving in the United States Army at Fort Hood. He attended Hobart High School prior to proudly joining the Army.

Zac is survived by his father and stepmother: Curt and Melissa (McCabe) Shinneman; mother, Barb LeRose of Valparaiso; two brothers: Charlie Shinneman of Hobart and Brendan Gornick of Valparaiso. He also leaves behind Jessica (nee Nunley) Shinneman, wife; paternal grandparents: Don and Dee Shinneman of Hobart; maternal grandmother, Saundra LeRose of Portage; great grandmother, Vera Lowman; step grandfather, Jerry McCabe of Michigan; step grandmother, Mary Ann McCabe of Iowa; and step great grandfather, Gerald Walter. He also leaves behind numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless close friends. Zac was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Victor LeRose; uncle, Tony LeRose; great grandfather, Vance Lowman; and great grandfather Lester "Paw" Shinneman.

Zac graduated from boot camp at Fort Benning on August 3, 2007 and was then deployed to South Korea for one year. After service in South Korea, Zac volunteered to serve in Iraq for a year. He was then stationed at Fort Hood. Zac was best known by all those who loved him for his contagious laugh, unpredictable sense of humor, the twinkle in his gorgeous blue eyes and his ability to make friends easily wherever he went.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th Street, Hobart, IN. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Lionel Young officiating and will be followed by a Military Honors service.
