OBITUARY FROM INDIANAPOLIS STAR, SEPTEMBER 4, 2004:

William H. Senior Gruppe Age 78, well known Muncie businessman, died early Wednesday morning at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born in Hammond, the son of William H. and Amelia Schreiber Gruppe, grew up in Hobart where he graduated from Hobart High School, and later attended Purdue University School of Engineering. Mr. Gruppe served with the Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. In 1958, he founded Gruppe Oil Company, (later known as G & G Oil Company), and was serving as president at his death. He was a member of Delaware County Lions Club, Delaware Country Club, Tippecanoe Country Club, and was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Dolores Gruppe; two daughters, Mary D. (Debbie) Rutherford, (husband-Frank) and Kathleen Goebel, (husband-Peter); two sons, William H. (Junior) Gruppe, (wife-Kris), and Michael Gruppe; four grandchildren, Matt, Andrew, Paul, and Amelia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Gruppe.

Services will be held in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory Chapel 11:30 a.m., Saturday. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday or prior to service time on Saturday.
