Eleanor Bartos (Kaczmarek) - Class Of 1938

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, AUGUST 20, 2009:

Eleanor (Bartos) Kaczmarek age 88, passed away August 16, 2009. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was born at home in New Chicago on December 30, 1920.

She is survived by her two sons, Mel (Sandy) Kaczmarek of Hobart IN. and Norm (Mary) Kaczmarek of Santa Fe, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Eleanor graduated from Hobart High School in 1938 and later attended Indiana University where she received her BS and MS degrees in Education. She was the first lay teacher at St. Bridget's Catholic School and later taught at Alexander Hamilton School in Lake Station. She taught school for 36 years and received an award for perfect attendance for all those years. Her love of teaching was apparent by her words "I can honestly say that I enjoyed every day of my teaching career." She had a profound and positive influence on the lives of all of her students. Eleanor enjoyed traveling, puzzles, card games and especially "her Cubbies". She was an avid Cub's baseball fan.

A graveside service for Eleanor will be held at Calvary Cemetery 2701 Willowdale Portage, IN. 46368 Friday August 21, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Eleanor's memory to Alzheimer's Association , 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601.
