Francis John Redar - Class Of 1938

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, DECEMBER 13, 2006:

FRANCIS J. REDAR Aug. 14, 1918 - Dec 11, 2006 Hobart, Indiana After graduating from Hobart High School, Francis served in the US Army and was a decorated World War II veteran of the Anti-tank Corp. He served in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Elizabeth Phillips on January 17, 1946. After his honorable discharge, he worked at the Budd Plant and operated Redar and Son Tree Trimming. He began his career at the Hobart Post Office in 1945 and was a Rural Route Mail Carrier from 1949 until his retirement in 1983. He was well known for driving the Grand Marshal in his classic convertibles in the Hobart Fourth of July parades and for driving his grandchildren and great grandchildren around the yard in his golf-cart powered trains. He was a member of American Legion Post 100 in Lake Station, the VFW #9323 in Lake Station, and a member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Lake Station.

Preceded in death by his parents, John & Barbara (Reichert) Redar, brother, Emery Redar, sister, Betty Heuttner, brother-in-law, Bob Phillips and infant son, Joseph Anthony. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Redar; children: Martha (Robert) McGuckin, Robert (Eleanor) Redar, David (Jill) Redar, Paul Redar, John (Claire) Redar; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, (every one his favorite); sister, Bernice (Don) Ruge; sisters-in-law, Helen Redar, Janette Baughman, Sally Hunt, Mary V. Phillips; brothers-in-law, Sam Phillips, Myron Phillips; many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th. Street, Hobart, IN. Friends may meet with the family at Burns Funeral Home (Hobart) on Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. American Legion Post 100 will hold Prayer Service on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
