Violet Tatalovich (Shematz) - Class Of 1945

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, MARCH 27, 2008:

Violet Shematz (nee Tatalovich), age 81, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. Violet was born on April 20, 1926 in Gary, Indiana. She was a graduate of Hobart High School Class of 1945. Violet was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, SNF Lodge #16, the Serbian Sisters Circle and a supporting member of the Karageorge Choir. Violet loved and enjoyed life, whether it was cooking up a meal for friends or family or shopping in Shipshewana she was always ready to go or to lend a helping hand. She will truly be missed by all that have known her.

Violet is survived by two sisters, Mary Magurean and Mildred (Clyde) Griggs; one brother, George (Grace) Tatalovich. Violet was a loving aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition, Violet was a resident of the Linden House of Hobart where she had many close and loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Steven Shematz and her parents, Sara and Sava Tatalovich.

The visitation will be held on Friday March 28, 2008 from 3-8 p.m. at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home Chapel, 4201 W. Ridge Road wth a Pomen service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Ridgelawn Funeral Chapel. Rev. Marko Matic officiating. Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St, Valparaiso, IN or St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church.
