Robert Thomas (Bob) Worthington - Class Of 1938

OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, SEPTEMBER 15, 2005:

ROBERT THOMAS WORTHINGTON, SR. "Bob" Portage, Indiana Age 85, a longtime resident, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2005. He was born to Fred and Mary (Kelley) Worthington on November 12, 1919 in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1938. Bob is a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Hobart, previously of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter, Indiana.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris (Carlson); children: Pat (Don) Glenn of Portage, Gerry (Lester) Healy of Arizona, Robert Thomas "Tom" (Nell) Worthington, Jr. of Valparaiso, Debbie (Merel) Nelson of Valparaiso; 8 grandsons; 10 great grandchildren; and his special dog, Buster.

He retired as a Lt. Colonel after 27 years in the Air Force. He was one of the original 5,000 "Flying Staff Sergeants" and was a B-24 bomber pilot in World War II. Bob retired with 27 years of service from Nabisco. Upon retirement, he loved traveling the country with his wife in their RV and also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and reading. Memorial contributions are preferred to Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, IN 46342.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will be followed by a private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, Portage, IN. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel in charge of arrangements.
