George R. Melat - Class Of 1928

OBITUARY FROM THE LAUREL HILL FUNERAL HOME (SPOTSYLVANIA, VA) WEBSITE:

George R. Melat, 93, passed away on April 27, 2004. He was born on August 25, 1910 in Hobart, Indiana. He attended Hobart Indiana High School (Brickies). George and his wife, Elinor, most recently lived in Ocala, Florida and Summer Lake in Fredericksburg, Virginia. George was a University of Indiana graduate in accounting and did graduate work at Northwestern University. His career was spent with the Federal Power Commission and he retired at 63. George led a wonderful life. He was well-loved by and is survived by: 

  • His wife, Elinor Melat, of Richmond, Virginia who will miss him terribly. 
  • A brother, Ellsworth Melat and wife, Margaret, of Pennsylvania. 
  • His beloved and only daughter, Jerry Lawrence of Vero Beach, Florida and son Justin Melat and wife, Susan, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 
  • George had grandchildren, Jocelyne Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rachel Melat of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Christian Melat of Durango, Colorado; Anna Johnson of Boca Raton, Florida; Erica Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Scottie Wiggington of Virginia; Susan Darby of Maryland; Carol Stedman of Arizona; Clint Messner and wife Pam, of Midlothian, Virginia. 
  • As well, there are great-grandchildren, Jared Taylor, 5, and Jennifer Taylor, 1, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

George Melat was an extraordinary man of great integrity and compassion and he will be greatly missed. 
Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Children’s Church World Service through any Presbyterian Church.

Services will be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home at 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, Virginia on Friday April 30, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with at viewing at noon, and interment will immediately following the service at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
