Calvin Green - Class Of 1944

INFORMATION PROVIDED BY JENNIFER EASTWOOD DAVIS, CLASS OF 1962:

Calvin E. Green, Jr., 71, a lifelong Hobart resident passed away Friday, March 21, 1997. Cal was the first Hobart High School graduate to attend graduation ceremonies in 1944 in uniform, he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, served as Justice of the Peace from 1956 through 1976 and was the owner/manager of Calumet Finance Company. Cal was the first Democratic Mayor of Hobart serving for 12 years from 1976 to 1988. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #5365; American Legion Post #54; Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity; Save Our Station Committee and was the current
Hobart City Bailiff. He was a dedicated Brickie Fan for 50 years. He was a regular pitcher on various city softball teams and enjoyed coaching youth basketball for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Marcie; son, Robert (Sandra) Green of Hobart; daughter, Peggy Green of Chicago; two grandchildren, Matthew Calvin Green and Brandon R. Green; one brother, Paul "Pug" Green of
Escondido, California; brother-in-law, Harold Phillips and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert who died in 1953 in the Korean Conflict and John "Jack" Green in 1989 and sister, Mary Phillips in January of 1997.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 P.M. at the Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN, Rev. Ronald Deck officiating. Burial at Hobart Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. Memorial
contributions are preferred to HIEDC Lake Front Development and The Hobart Food Pantry.
