In Memory

Betty Bellar (Wojtysiak) - Class Of 1971

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Betty June Wojtysiak (nee Bellar), age 71 of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born on November 24, 1952, in Gary, IN to Ralph and Venus Bellar.  She was a 1971 graduate from Hobart High School.  After high school, she worked at Buy Low Foods in Hobart, IN as a cashier.  In 1972, she married her first husband Bill Evans; they had two daughters together, Angela and Cindy.  She was most proud of being a mother; always doting on her two daughters, taking them everywhere with her.  One of her favorite things to do when they were little was to dress them in matching outfits just like little dolls she would say.  In 1978, at the age of 25, she was severely injured in a Jeep accident that almost took her life. The injuries she sustained changed the course of her life and limited her in many ways.  Although it would have been easy to be bitter and angry about her accident, she never was, and never let her limitations from it hold her back.  Life took many twists and turns after that and in 1985, she met and married James Wojtysiak.  They were happily married for 33 years until his death in 2019.  Inseparable from the day they met, they enjoyed playing games like cards and dominos together. They also enjoyed going to the movies and dining out at their favorite local restaurant, The Paragon.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Angela (Jason) Lindseth, Cindy (Jason) Herring; grandchildren, Tyler Herring (21), Banyan Howell (17), Mason Herring (13), Logan Herring (10); sister, Dona Erwin; aunt, Juanita Galbreth; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wojtysiak; father, Ralph Bellar; mother, Venus (nee Harmon) Shotts; and sister, Patricia “Patsy” Burns.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm, immediately following visitation.  Funeral procession will follow; she will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
