James A. “Jim” Hines, 53, of Brookston, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at his home. He was born January 20, 1968 in Gary, IN to the late Douglas Sr. and Catherine (Mills) Hines.

Jim was a 1986 graduate of Hobart High School. While in school, Jim excelled in wresting winning three state championships in multiple weight classes. Jim had several wresting scholarship offers leaving high school.

Jim worked majority of his life in the concrete business, employed by local companies over the years. He loved working and tinkering in the garage on anything with a motor. Jim was gifted when it came to repairing equipment and vehicles. He most recently enjoyed driving and working on RC cars.

Jim is survived by his children, Breanna Hines of Delphi, Joshua Lambert of Delphi and Jake Smith of Huntington, IN. Siblings, Douglas Jr. (Jackie) Hines of Medaryville, Rosetta (Mick) Vereb of Valparaiso and Candyce Hartley of Fort Wayne, IN. Also surviving is grandmother, Rosetta Rosenbaum of Hobart and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Catherine Hines.

A private family service will be held at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston.
