It is with sorrow and love we mourn Karen Lee (Dunn) Reynolds of Hobart, Indiana. Karen Lee (Dunn) Reynolds passed away on April 15th, 2023 at the age of 73 after a brief illness. Karen was a devoted mother, wife, aunt, sister, and friend to many.
Karen was born to the late Irene and Chalmer Dunn on July 6th, 1949. After graduating from Hobart High School in 1967 she attended Indiana University, where she enjoyed teasing classmates that she was “that Dunn” of the famous Dunn Woods on campus. She received her bachelor’s degree in education and after teaching 6th grade for a few years, she decided to return to school to pursue her MBA at Ball State University. Post graduation she moved to Chicago and began working as a financial analyst at Bank of America in Chicago. While working hard and playing hard with friends in Chicago, Karen met the love of her life Peter Reynolds. They were married in 1987 and went on to have one son, Ryan, in 1991. Being the devoted mother she was, Karen returned to her true passion and began teaching again to be on a similar schedule to Ryan. Karen could always be found keeping stats while she cheered in the stands at Ryan’s many sporting events. Karen continued her role in education and was actively teaching at Lake Station school where she taught 6th & 7th grade math, up until her death. Karen will be remembered for her quick wit, love of camping, puzzles, and card games. She will be remembered for her devotion to both her family and her teams (namely the Hoosiers and Blackhawks).
She will be dearly missed by her husband Peter, and their son Ryan (Morgan). She is also survived by siblings Darrell (Jeanne), Bryan (Julie), Warren (Jill), and Cyndi Dunn. She is also survived by 22 nieces & nephews, and 29 great-nieces/nephews.
She is preceded in death by her sister Sharon, and parents Irene and Chalmer.
A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 6th 2023 at 10:00 a.m., until the time of memorial service at 12:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home 701 E. 7th Street Hobart, IN 46342, Pastor Tom Clark officiating.
