Normal – Shirley Jean Gilbert, 79, of Normal, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
Shirley was born on July 4, 1936, in Du Quoin, the daughter of Minyard and Matilda Mandrell Gilliam. She married Mitchell Gilbert, he survives her.

Also surviving are their children, Robert (Minh) Gilbert of South Kingstown, RI; John (Donna) Gilbert of Northborough, MA; a daughter in-law, Diane Gilbert of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Katelynn), Jason (Danielle), Aaron, Angelique Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Aden, Oliver, Devyn Gilbert; a brother, Greg (Peggy) Gilliam of Valparaiso, IN; and a sister, Rita Grube of Carson City, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Gilbert; a brother, Don Gilliam; and a sister, Carole Pangburn.

Shirley enjoyed dancing, home decorations, and pottery. She loved spending time with her children.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, March 22 at East Lawn Funeral Home, in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at eastlawn-bloomington.com
