Carol Whittaker (Draper) - Class Of 1954

Carol Jo Draper age 86, formerly of Sheridan, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Green Acres of Greenville, MI. She was born December 20, 1936 in Flint, the daughter of Lloyd James & Catherine Elizabeth (Linn) Whittaker. Carol graduated from Hobart High School in Gary, IN in 1954 and went on to attend one year of college. She and her family moved to the Detroit area, where she met her husband Earnest Draper while working at a pharmacy. They married on June 23, 1956. During their early years of marriage they travelled to Paris, France to live on the Air Force Base during Earnie’s service in the Korean War. Upon arriving home to Michigan, they adopted two wonderful children and began a life together in Rockford. Carol was a customer service rep and teller in the banking industry with lifelong friends from the bank. Upon retiring she traveled the world, going to Japan, Denmark and Jerusalem. She was a very active member of the First Congregational Church in Sheridan, MI. She served on many committees and also enjoyed the choir. Carol never met a stranger and loved to joke and laugh especially with her many friends in her "Street-Walkers” walking group. Many will remember her laughter and jovial smile, and her cheery outlook on life. She will be greatly missed. Carol will be remembered as a kind, fun and loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend.

Carol is survived by her daughter and son in law Sue (James) Morrison of Omena; son and daughter in law Anthony (Kelly) Draper of Greenville; 4 grandchildren , James (Alicia) Tock of Holland and Cate Tock of Belmont; Meagan (Max) Wagner of Portage, Tyler Draper of Rockford; 2 great grandchildren Johanna and Eleanor and her brother James Whittaker of Rockford. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earnest, brother Phil Whittaker and sister Nancy Baroth.

Memorial Services will take place at Noon Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the First Congregational Church in Sheridan, with Pastor Philip Van Dop officiating. Members of the family will be meeting with friends and family from 11 AM until the service. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial will take place later in Rose Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church of Sheridan, MI.
