Victor Levan - Class Of 1962

OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Victor R. Levan, age 78 of Portage, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023.

He was born August 19, 1944 in Gary, IN to Victor R. Sr. and Mary (Chirila) Levan. On June 8, 1968, he married Pamela J. (Fritz) Levan who survives as well as their children- Ryan M. Levan, Victoria L. (Robert) Petillo, Kristen L. (Albert) Reyes; granddaughter- Alivia L. Reyes. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister- Veronica A. (David) Miller. Additional surviving relatives are sister- Marcia M. (Richard) Anderson, nieces, nephews, and his best buddy- Roxie. Victor & Pam just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June.

Victor graduated from Hobart High School class of 1962. He attended Indiana State University obtaining Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Parks and Recreation. He then became the first full-time park superintendent for Portage for thirteen years. He started Great Lakes Recreational Supply, designing and building playgrounds for schools and parks in Indiana.

Over the years he was president, chairman, and board member of Indiana Park and Recreation Association (INPRA). He was chairman of several state conventions; 25-year member of Great Lakes or Midwest Parks Association; voted out-standing Park and Recreation director for Indiana; actively involved in planning and implementing walking and biking trails in Porter, Hobart, and Portage. He concluded his career as Park and Recreation superintendent in the city of Hobart.

Victor was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an amazing person who drew people to him. Vic cherished his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He fought his battle against Alzheimer's with courage and grace. We would like to thank Jillian and the staff at Bickford and Hospice in Crown Point for taking such great care of our husband, and dad, and making him comfortable.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St, Hobart. As per Vic’s request, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Hobart Humane Society. www.burnsfuneral.com
