Michael (Mike) Hallas - Class Of 1965

OBITUARY FROM THE CRAWFORDSVILLE JOURNAL-REVIEW, DECEMBER 29, 2016:
 
Mr. Michael Gary Hallas, 69, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016. He was born Sept. 29, 1947 in Alton, Illinois, to Leon Gary and Dorothy Mae (Frame) Hallas. He married Sandra Lee Poole in Crawfordsville on June 11, 1999.  She survives.
 
Mike was a teacher, beginning his teaching career at Boonville High School and continuing his career in education at Southmont High School from 1971 until 2003 where he was a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal.  After his retirement, he became a Southmont School Corporation Board Member and also worked part-time with McGraw Hill Education Publishing. He was a graduate of Hobart High School; received his Bachelors Degree in 1969 from the University of Evansville; his Masters Degree from DePauw University; and his School Administrative Licenses from DePauw and Purdue universities.  He was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and attended the New Hope Christian Church; and was a member of the Indiana Association of School Principals.  His hobbies included golfing; playing the guitar; taking the grandkids for rides on the lawnmower or tractor; and working out and taking walks.
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cory Hallas of Crawfordsville; Tiffany (Rob) Slavik of Minneapolis, Minnesota; step-children, Travis Swaim of Burns, Oregon, and Traci (Todd) Odle of Indianapolis.  Also surviving is his brother, Jim (Ellen) Hallas of Valparaiso; five grandchildren, Liam, Cooper Stone, Ryder, Brady, and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his brother, Chuck; and his sister, Jean Ehrhardt.
 
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the New Hope Christian Church, 2746 US 231 South, Crawfordsville.  Burial will follow in the Oak Hill South Cemetery, Crawfordsville.  Friends may call at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
