Charlene J. Walters, age 72, of Hobart, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. She was born on July 25, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to the late Charles and Evelyn Erwin. Charlene attended Hobart High School class of 1962. On December 18, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jerry Walters, who she was married to for 42 years. She was an avid NASCAR fan, she enjoyed attending the time trials for the Indianapolis 500, and she enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Blackhawks. Above all, she cherished the time she spent camping with her family.
Charlene is survived by her daughter, De Ann (Richard) Pruitt; sisters, Geraldine (late Terry) Ehrhardt, Pauline (late Roger) Mergl; sister in law, Dona (late Eugene) Erwin; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Evelyn Erwin; her beloved husband in 2004, Jerry Walters; brothers, Eugene and Jackie Erwin.
A funeral service for Charlene will take place Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
