Gayle Huminsky (Warnimont) - Class Of 1955

Gayle Warnimont, age 82, passed away with the loving support of family and friends, on Monday, December 2nd, 2019, in Portage.

Gayle was born on May 10th, 1937 in Gary Indiana, and then raised in Hobart Indiana. In 1955 she graduated from Hobart High School, and later received her BS from Indiana University, Bloomington IN. Gayle also went on to earn a graduate degree in Public Administration from Indiana University.

Gayle was a devoted daughter, and mother. Her passions included reading and learning, cooking, decorating, as well as growing plants and flowers and tending her garden. She was also a devoted Catholic and member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church where she was involved with RCIA studies. In years past Gayle travelled around Europe and the Middle East and especially loved going to Egypt to see the pyramids, and to The Vatican in Rome. After graduating from IU Gayle lived in various places including San Diego and Lafayette, CA; cities in the Albany, Syracuse and New York City areas of NY, as well as Norwalk CT. She worked in South Bend and Indy, then Lima, OH. Gayle came to Portage to take her of her parents in 1993.

During her career Gayle held directorships in materials management in healthcare, was an administrator of campus management services at St Mary’s College in South bend, worked in interior design, and was a substitute teacher in middle schools. Once retired, Gayle wrote a column for the Post-Tribune, worked as a fundraiser for Hobart’s lakefront development, and was involved in her class reunion committee and local Herb Society.

Gayle is preceded in death by her parents Mary (Bosnak) and Peter Huminsky, and one brother Donald Huminsky and his wife Shirley. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Warnimont; son, David Warnimont; her brother, James (Ellen) Huminsky; her nieces Leigh and Donna Huminksy, and nephews, Jay, Dean, Adam and Aaron Huminsky.

A Celebration of Gayle's life will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Gayle's behalf to the charity of your choice. www.burnsfuneral.com.
