Mary Catharine Smith (Whiteside-Rush) - Class Of 1945

OBITUARY FROM MANSFIELD (OHIO) NEWSJOURNAL, NOVEMBER 4, 2015:

Mary Catharine Smith Whiteside-Rush, 88, of Ashland, passed away late Sunday evening, November 1, 2015, at Hospice of North Central Ohio. She was born May 21, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Fay and Ida (Coulter) Smith. She was raised by her devoted mother and step-father, Harvey Mostoller in Hobart, Indiana.

Mary was a high school cheerleader and graduated in 1945 from Hobart High School. She met and married Ralph Whiteside in 1946 and they moved to London, Ohio, where their only daughter, Mary Lee was born. She was a proficient secretary working for various corporations and, lastly, for Cole, Brown and Fesmier.

Mary had various hobbies and interests including boating, playing Euchre, traveling, sports and music. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her grandchildren brought special joy to her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee (Bill) Jansen; grandchildren, Laura (Todd) Longwell and Julie (Mike) Valentine, both of Galion, Mollie Jansen (Caleb Painter) and Hollie (Jeremy) Chance. She leaves ten great-grandchildren, Alison and Max Longwell, Jordan, Elizabeth and Emma Valentine, Addison and Christian, Ella Sanchez, and Annabella and AJ Chance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Whiteside; second husband, Wayne Rush; and last love, Dean Taylor of Galion; grandson, William Robert Jansen, Jr. and two brothers, Earl and Dick Smith.

Per Mary's request, there will no calling hours or services. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805. The Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
