Edward Biel - Class Of 1945

Edward Marion Biel, age 88, of Lake Station, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Ed was born on October 5, 1927, in Hobart, Indiana, to the late John A. and Angeline (Majka) Biel. A lifelong area resident and graduate of Hobart High School, Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Italy at the end of W.W. II. Ed was a former volunteer fireman with the Liverpool Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for one year. Ed worked at U.S. Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1991. Blessed with many years of retirement, Ed became his family’s number one fan, supporting and encouraging them in their various endeavors.

A devoted family man, Ed is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Delores; his daughter, Diane (George) Gordon, of Valparaiso; one granddaughter, Kristina (Colin) White, of Chicago, IL; and one sister, Dorothy Fabian, of Hobart.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00, on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, in Hobart, with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Services provided by Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana.
