Evelyn Draschil (Niemeyer) - Class Of 1960

OBITUARY FROM THE TRIBUNE (SEYMOUR, IN) WEBSITE:

Evelyn Marie (Draschil) Niemeyer, 81, of Bloomington passed away on Sunday, September 24th, 2023, in Stonecroft Health Campus surrounded by her family. She was born on August 12, 1942, in Detroit to Frank and Mary (Bosko) Draschil, both of whom preceded her in death. After completing high school in Hobart, Indiana, she earned her nursing degree from Indiana University. In 1965, Evelyn married John Niemeyer and resided in Seymour.

Evelyn retired after 30 years working for the state of Indiana. During that time, she earned an M.S. in Special Education from Indiana University. She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, IU University Club, Tri Kappa, IU Alumni Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She especially enjoyed traveling with family and friends, reading, playing bridge, and attending IU sporting and cultural events.

Survivors include daughters, Julia Niemeyer of Fishers, Rachel (Brian) Wheeler of Bloomington; grandchild Gretchen Wheeler; and two brothers, Richard (Sheryl) Draschil and George (Pam) Draschil. She was preceded in death by an infant son, David Louis Niemeyer, and her husband, John.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Oncology team at IU Health and the many healthcare professionals that provided care to Evelyn in the last four years of her life. Special thanks to Dr. Karuna Koneru, Nurse Michelle Shier, Nurse Navigator Holly Gordon, Dr. Priya Kumar, Dr. Robert Stone, Southern Care Hospice, and the team at Stonecroft Health Campus for their compassion and guidance. We would like to express sincere gratitude to our families, friends, and work colleagues for their ongoing support.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 28th, at 11am with a visitation beginning at 10am at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 3800 East Third Street, Bloomington.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County YMCA, the Monroe County Public Library, or the Cancer Support Community of South Central Indiana.
