John S. Routes, 79, Port Charlotte, died Dec. 6, 2002, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Gary, Ind, and came to Port Charlotte 30 years ago from Hobart, Ind.

He was a self-employed dentist. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Survivors include sons Mark of Port Charlotte, James of Denver, Thomas of Bloomington, Ind., John of Englewood, Colo., and Terrence of Bedford, Ind.; a daughter, Mary E. Hutnick of Valparaiso, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Paul Schelm Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be in Portage, Ind.
