VADA C. SHEARER

HOBART, IN -- A reception and memorial service for Vada C. Shearer who died in February will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN. Rev. Gary Nagy officiating. Vada was born in 1915 in Yeoman, IN and lived most of her life in Hobart. She was married for over 70 years to Calvin H. Shearer who died in 2007. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart and worked at Gary Methodist Hospital as manager and secretary of the Chaplain's office. Vada was active in her community serving as president of both the Hobart Junior Women's Club and Lake Federated Women's Club where she also held state office. She was a volunteer at the Trade Winds School, Ainsworth Cub Scouts, the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and HIEDC.

Vada was preceded in death by her elder son, Calvin T. She is survived by her younger son, Richard and his wife, Ruth of Bronxville, NY; her grandchildren, Dr. Lee Shearer and her husband, John Radice of New York, NY; Kate Shearer of Sydney, AU; Jonathan Shearer and his wife, Robyn of Milwaukee, WI, and Pam Munoz and her husband, Carlos of Milwaukee, WI; and her great-grandchildren: Dylan and Zoe Munoz. Also surviving are her niece, Mary Ann Thompson of Hobart, IN; and nephews: Jack Quillen of Columbia, SC and Tom Quillen of Hixson, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vada's name to Valparaiso University.
