Michael (Mike) VanSanten - Class Of 1984

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Age 56, of Hobart, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022, at his home. He was born on November 25, 1965 to Jacob Peter and Sally (nee Rafferty) VanSanten in Valparaiso, Indiana. Michael was a member of Trinity Lutheran, where he was a church trustee. On April 27, 1996 he married the love of his life Sharen (nee Anderson) VanSanten in Crown Point, Indiana.  Michael played Hobart Brickie Football and had the opportunity to travel to China with his Puma Brothers and see the world.  He was very proud that his son followed in his footsteps earning the name "wolfpack". He subsequently received a football scholarship to St. Joseph College in Rensselaer where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business.  He worked for Vans Industrial Service and later started his own business, Dutchman Industrial.  He was active in outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, motorcycling, rafting, and scuba diving.  Michael was a second-degree black belt and loved to go on adventures with his bride, Sharen and his son, Skylar. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Sharen VanSanten; son, Jacob Skylar VanSanten; father, Jacob Peter VanSanten; mother, Sally VanSanten; sister, Debi (Mike) Ward; aunts, Tammy (Larry) Kueck, Arnetta Holodick; uncle, Jerry (Nancy) VanSanten; and many cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Evelyn VanSanten, Roy and Nell Rafferty; and uncle, Ronald (Carol) Rafferty.

Funeral service for Michael will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Cremation will follow. Visitation will also be held Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. (219) 942-2109 or online condolences at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
