Bill Matthews - Class Of 1966

William “Bill” R. Matthews, age 70 of Mint Hill, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017, at his residence. Bill was born May 30, 1947, in Hobart, IN, a son to the late Merle and Mildred Lee (Hodge) Matthews. Bill was a graduate of Hobart High School and later graduated from Linn State Technical College. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

On February 19, 1972 Bill was united in marriage to Paula Sue Stephenson in Chesterton, IN. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2014. While living in Indiana, Bill was employed as an electrician for Inland Steel in Chicago and Bishop Knoll in Hammond, IN. After moving to Mint Hill, he was employed as the director of the HVAC program at Linn State Technical College until his retirement in 2011. Bill enjoyed traveling, bird watching, his cats, gardening, coin collecting and restoring his 1957 Chevy.

Bill is survived by: three daughter, Sue Lindsey and her husband Brian of Jefferson City, Brandy Kempker and her husband Tom of Holts Summit and Shannon Smith and her husband Dean of Jefferson City; Bill's girlfriend, Trisha Mantle of Loose Creek; one brother Terry Matthews of Mint Hill; six grandchildren, Brandon Matthews, Erich Kempker, Kayla Smith, Hannah Lindsey, Miranda Smith and Jarret Smith; an honorary grandchild, Teagan Mosley; one niece, Melinda Matthews of Chicago as well as other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and spouse of 42 years, Bill was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Bob” Matthews. 

Visitation for Bill will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Interment will follow in the Shirley Mint Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors.
