William (Bill) Wilfong - Class Of 1977

OBITUARY FROM THE HERALD-PALLADIUM (ST. JOSEPH, MI):
 
William “Bill” Wilfong passed away peacefully at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville on Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, 2017.
 
He was born on May 1, 1959, in Hobart, Ind. Bill was a graduate of Hobart High School in Hobart, Ind. In his younger years, he was an avid boxer, wrestler and football player. In more recent times, Bill enjoyed cycling, working out, cooking, riding his motorcycle and gardening. His favorite pastime was going to the movies. Bill was last employed at Lowe’s, where he enjoyed helping people with their DIY projects.
 
For the past several years, Bill had been fighting multiple system atrophy. MSA is a rare neurological disorder. Hoping to help others fight this disease, he donated his brain to the research department at the University of Michigan’s Medical School.

He is survived by his mother, Lois, and stepfather, Levi; son, Christopher, and daughter, Phylicia; three grandchildren: Chase, Tyse and Madison; a sister, Joanne; two brothers, Wade and Mark; his companion of nine years, Mary; his forever family: Hoyt, Jennifer, Parker, and Gabbi; and the Vitale crew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy, and his father, Joseph.
 
Per Bill’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to the nurses and nurse assistants at the Hanson House for all of their love, compassion and care. And to his dear friends Don, Fred, and Robert, we give overwhelming gratitude for their love, friendship and support.
