Michael (Mike) Sopko - Class Of 1964

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, JUNE 1, 2018:
 
Michael Sopko, age 71, of Hobart, IN passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.
 
Mike was a loving dad and grandpa, as well as a retired lineman and supervisor for NIPSCO. He was an avid bass fisherman, mushroom hunter, lifelong Brickie and Cubs fan.
 
Mike is survived by his five children: Steven (Kim ) Sopko of Alexandria, VA; Michelle (Kevin) Markert of Marengo, IL; Laura Sopko (Brian Cox) of Hobart, IN; Lisa (Dan) Smith of San Diego, CA; and Michael (Amanda) Sopko of Chesterton, IN. Mike is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Katie Markert (Dylan Longley), Tyler Markert; Benjamin, Jason, Mayson, and Easton Sopko; Bode and Coby Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Gertrude Sopko.
 
Per his final wishes, Mike’s children will be holding a private celebration of life at Teal Point Resort on Lake Norfork in Arkansas, where he has been fishing for the past 50 years. His grandkids know that whenever they see a full moon, their Grandpa Mike is throwing a single spin and catching the biggest bass in the whole world!
