Biographical Information: My husband was a good man and a good American. When the Vietnam War began, he enlisted in the United States Navy and had three tours of duty in Vietnam. When it was over, he became a policeman; his main goal was to help people, and he did. Once he gave a man walking along the railroad track the money he had in his wallet for the man to get back home. He bought basketball shoes for kids in youth basketball who didn’t have any. He bought groceries for people who needed food for their families. He coached youth basketball, basketball at middle school and high school levels. He also coached girls softball. Steve was the first Detective Sergeant. Later on he was appointed Captain by Mayor Cal Green, which was a second-in-command position of the Hobart Police Department. Hearing retirement, he served as Jail Commander for Sheriff John Roberts here in White County, Indiana. He always called himself a "little kid from Moweaqua, Illinois," but he had some big accomplishments in his life. Our family will always be proud of his legacy. We will always love and miss him. He was a wonderful husband and father. I Love You, Janis
