OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE WEBSITE, JANUARY 14, 2017:
Carroll Eugene "Gene" Clemens, age 81, of Hobart, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully Friday, January 6, 2017. He was born on March 6, 1935 in Coulterville, Illinois to Carroll and Ruby Clemens. Gene retired as agent/owner of an Allstate Insurance Agency, where he was recognized numerous times to be in the top 10% of all Allstate agencies. An avid Hobart Brickie fan, he was one of the founders of Pop Warner Football in Hobart. He supported all youth sports in Hobart, with a special emphasis on Brickie Wrestling.
Gene is survived by his loving sister, Joann Brickman of Hobart, IN; his sons, Michael (Judy) Clemens of Fox Island, WA, Bradley (Branka) Clemens of Hobart, IN, Gregory (Nina) Clemens of San Antonio, TX; 5 grandchildren, Nicole (Hector) Lopez, Kelly (Wesley) Goodpaster, Jennifer (Juan) Garcia, Ryan Clemens, Krystal Curtis; 6 great grandchildren, Taylor and Ella Lopez, Kaya and Ryder Goodpaster, Makayla Bearce, and Isaiah Garcia.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willa "Billie" Clemens; parents, Carroll and Ruby Clemens, and his brother, David Clemens.
Memorial visitation for Gene will take place Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home with Rev. John Michael Fliris officiating. Burial of cremains at Evergreen Memorial Park will follow services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hobart Wrestling Club.
