Richard Lee "Red" Spears, age 79 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was born on September 29, 1939 in Gary, IN to Samuel and Martha (Lootens) Spears.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Marjorie (Sutherland) Spears; son, Samuel (Fawn) Spears of Valparaiso; daughters, Lori (Jeff) Cook of Valparaiso, Julie (Dominick) Marini of Hebron, Megan (Scott) Davis of Valparaiso; sister, Marcia (John) LaBounty of Westville; grandchildren, Scott, Holly, Trisha, Olivia, Arianna, Cory, Emma, Elodie, Clara; two great grandchildren, Charlotte, and Zoey; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Tom Spears and Jimmy Spears.

Richard was a Veteran of The United States Air Force and of The United States Navy. He retired from Bethlehem Steel following over 35 years of service. Richard was a member of Portage Bible Church. He loved cooking and baking. 

Funeral services will be held 6:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Ron Smith officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 4:00 pm until the time of services at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
