John Glad - Class Of 1959

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, DECEMBER 27, 2015:

John P. Glad, a professor of Russian language and literature died December 4, 2015 in Washington, DC at age 73. A prolific writer, his publications are considered seminal works in the field of Russian studies. He served as Director of the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies at the Smithsonian. He was the translator of dissident Soviet Gulag authors. He was the interpreter for Russian presidents, Gorbachev and Yeltsin. John Glad leaves a legacy on three continents. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his generous heart, his contagious laugh, and his bravery battling Parkinson's Disease. John was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1959; Indiana University, BA and Masters: Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude; Ph.D, New York University, University of Maryland Professor, International Scholar, Translator, Author, Lecturer, USSR/Russia, Europe, USA.
 
Survivors include his wife, Larisa Romanov Glad; sons: Michael Slava Romanov and Aaron Jon Glad Pearce; grandsons: Nikolai and Alexander Romanov; and sisters: Diana Glad, Ph.D and Donna Glad Blythe, MD.
