Jack Overturf - Class Of 1959

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Jack Ferrell Overturf, age 75, of Hobart, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born on December 6, 1940 in Benton, Illinois to the late Cullen and Dorothy Overturf. He was employed as a coke plant lab technician for US Steel. Jack never met a stranger. He was always eager to help out people in need. Jack ran for various local political offices. He was a past president of the Izaak Walton League, a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and the United Steelworker’s Union local #1014. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and metal detecting. Above all, he cherished his family and the time he spent with them.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Wallie; sons, Jack W. (Kelli) Overturf, Jack B. Overturf, Quentin Overturf; daughters, Angelic Zuniga, Alysia (fiancée Rick Arnn) Ashlock; grandchildren, Jack C. Overturf, Ashleigh Overturf, Taylor Reid, Tyler Reid, Vanessa Ashlock, Jacob Overturf, Ryan Ashlock, Danielle Overturf; brothers, Frank (Mickie) Overturf, Terry (Cyndi) Overturf; sister, Sandra (Rick) Harvey; numerous loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cullen and Dorothy Overturf; brother, Timothy Overturf; best friend, Steve Roper. Memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the family.
 
A memorial service for Jack will take place Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Frederic Lams officiating. Memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109. I m sorry to hear about Jack passing away, I worked with Jack at Gary Steel Mills Coke Plant Lab for 11 years, he was known as Turf, we had many good years working together....Frank Kolczak
