Barbara Kane (Kurth) - Class Of 1955

OBITUARY FROM THE STEMM-LAWSON FUNERAL HOME (ELKHART, IN) WEBSITE:

Barbara Elizabeth Kurth, age 83, of Elkhart passed on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on November 24, 1937 to Efian “Bud” and Elizabeth “Betty” Kane in Gary, IN.  She married Thomas Franklin Kurth on November 28, 1957 in Hobart, IN.

Barbara graduated from Hobart High School, Wittenberg University and Indiana University for her Master Degree in Education. Barbara retired from Elkhart Community Schools after 35 years of teaching kindergarten and first grade. She finished her career in the preschool program at Trinity Lutheran Church of which she was an active member. She enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Franklin Kurth; their children, Kristie (Steve) Stutsman of Elkhart, Frank (Denise) Kurth of Osceola and Karen (William) Hunter of Gastonia, North Carolina; their grandchildren, Tommy (Madison) Kurth, Katie (Jake) Kuipers, Dean Hunter and Kurt Hunter; her sister Carol Kane of Valparaiso, IN her niece, Susie (Ryan) Kutansky and her nephew,  Mladen ( Milena) Djankovich. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Debbie Djankovich and her grandson, Justin Stutsman.

Friends may visit with family from 3- 5 pm on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 30888 CR 6, Elkhart, IN 46514. Where friends may one hour before services at the church. Entombment will follow at Rice Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
