James ("Kozy") Koselke - Class Of 1948

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, SEPTEMBER 23, 2014:

James L. Koselke, Sr. age 84, of Hobart passed away on September 21, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Florence (nee Pustelnik) and eight children: Kathy (John) Nassios of Joliet, IL; Matt (Pam) of Union, MO; Mary Schrader of Omaha, NE; Kelly (Jim) Larem of Hobart, IN; Cheryl Koselke (Kevin Irby) of S. Chicago Hts., IL; Carol Koselke-Massery of Hobart, IN; Jim, Jr. (Nancy) of Hobart, IN; and Diane Koselke of Crest Hill, IL. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren: Joshua Wellington; Aaron and Derek Koselke; Andrew (Meghan), Zach and Katie Schrader; Steve, Edd and Joe Larem; Nathaniel Massery; Kevin and Jeremy Koselke; and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Rosemary Fasel, Gen Sothman, Joe (Maureen) Koselke, and Noreen (Demos) Gelopulos.

Jim was born February 8, 1930 in Hobart, IN and was a life-long resident. He is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Helen (O'Keefe) Koselke and son-in-law, Steven Wellington.

He graduated from Hobart High School in 1948 and in the 1950's he ran Koselke Milk Transfer which picked up milk from the dairy farmers of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties and delivered it to Dixie Dairy in Gary. He retired from NIPSCO. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a mortar sergeant in Battery C of the 96th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the American Legion Koselke-Mayfield Post 403, of Wanatah and the VFW Post 5365 of Hobart and where he spent many evenings with his friends. Jim loved his large family and spent countless days enjoying the fishing retreat he established on a small lake in LaPorte, IN. He made the best polish sausage by hand and maintained a large garden most of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hobart VFW Post 5365. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with a VFW Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be Thursday, September 25, 2014 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 107 Main Street, Hobart from 9:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dominic V.
