Catherine Galich (Lenburg) - Class Of 1947

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE, NOVEMBER 27, 2016:
 
Catherine A. Lenburg, age 87, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, following a long illness. Catherine was born on September 15, 1929 in Gary, Indiana to John and Mary (Sasak) Galich. She is survived by her sons, John Lenburg of Portage, IN, Greg (Edna) Lenburg of Plymouth, IN, and Jeff (Debby) Lenburg of Goodyear, AZ; grandson, Jacob Lenburg of Plymouth, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, John; brother, Anton Galich; and sister, Violet Prusinski.
 
Catherine grew up on a working family farm run by her parents in Hobart. In 1947, she graduated from Hobart High School where she was a member of the school’s Thespians’ Club, Boosters’ Club and Art Club her senior year. John married Catherine on November 20, 1948 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Glen Park, Indiana. In 1958, they moved to Anaheim, California, where they raised their three sons. Catherine served as President of the Orange County Mother of Twins Club, of which she was the charter member, and took honors in the club’s bowling league. In February 1987, after John retired, they moved back to Hobart, Indiana, where Catherine and John were active members of St. Vincent de Paul Society and supervised the distribution of Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for needy families until John’s death in 2000.

Catherine was an active member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in New Chicago.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10:00 am directly at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3530 Illinois Street, New Chicago, Indiana. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Arrangements were entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
