Donald Govert - Class Of 1949

Donald Raymond Govert, age 86, of Hobart passed away May 23, 2017. He was born on February 26, 1931 in Hobart at his family home, to the late Joseph A. and Sylvia (nee Miller) Govert. Donald was a retired lineman and supervisor for Nipsco. On October 20, 1985 Donald married Martha Tesanovich in South Bend. He was a lifelong member of St. Bridget’s Church in Hobart. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a past member of American Legion Post 54 of Hobart. He enjoyed; hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and had a wicked left hand pitch in softball. Donald will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; seven children, Sharon (Larry) Kennedy, Leanne (Philip) Monroe, Cindy Lindborg DDS, Kim (Dr. John) Carter, Gayle (Mike) James, Donna (Bob) Trezak and Jim (Angie) Dickson; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (Joyce) Govert, Norm (Beckie) Govert, and Alan (Janet) Govert; two sisters, Ethel Phillips and Elaine (Mike) Ryan numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends and his furry companion, Toby Raymond Govert.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine (nee Emory) Govert; granddaughter, Madison Carter; parents, Joseph and Sylvia Govert; son in law, Dave Lindborg DDS; two brothers, Victor and Jerry Govert and three sisters, Irene Killigrew, Viola Sanderson and Joan Richter.

Funeral service are Saturday, May 27, 2017 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to St. Bridget Church, 568 E. 2nd Street, Hobart, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation is Friday, May 26, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
