Joan Niksch (Henderson) - Class Of 1944

OBITUARY FROM TC PALM (PALM CITY, FL) WEBSITE, MAY 26, 2016:

Joan Niksch Henderson, 89, of Palm City, FL, passed away on May 24, 2016 at her home.

She was born on November 13, 1926 in Gary, IN, the daughter of Arthur R. and Evelyn S. Niksch. She graduated from high school in Hobart, IN. She received a B.S. degree from Purdue University and did postgraduate work at the Houston Museum School of Fine Arts. Mrs. Henderson made her home at various times in Indiana, Texas, New York, California, Louisiana, Connecticut, Georgia, London (England), South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida. Through the years she volunteered with many civic and charitable organizations on both sides of the Atlantic including a V.A. Hospital (Houston), the British Red Cross (London), the Girls' Club (Stamford, Conn.), the Shelter for Battered Women (Houston), and the Caring Center (Clover, SC). She served on the Board of Visitors for Davidson College, Davidson, NC. She was a member of and served on committees of social, country, and golf clubs in Atlanta, Connecticut, Houston, England, North and South Carolina, and Florida. At the Sandhill Cove retirement community in Palm City, Florida she served on several committees and was a chair of the Food and Beverage Committee. She was a member of the Treasure Coast Unitarian Universalist Church of Stuart, FL.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James B. Henderson, a daughter, Janet Henderson Lane of Cypress, Texas, a son Robert Brooke Henderson of Sugar Land, Texas, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

There will be a memorial service at a later date at Treasure Coast Unitarian Universalist Church of Stuart, FL.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.
