Donna Mae Schavey (Olson) - Class Of 1948

Donna Mae Olson, 89 of Greeley, passed away August 19, 2019 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley. Donna was born April 4, 1930 in Gary, Indiana to George Herman and Loretta (Bartels) Schavey.

Donna was raised in Hobart, IN, graduating from Indiana University with a teaching degree in Mathematics. She met her husband Bob while working overseas and they married in October 1958. They eventually moved to Greeley in 1974. She was a member of a poetry club, enjoyed playing Bridge, and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Donna is survived by her sons, Tom (Mary Beth) Olson, and Dan Olson; and grandchildren Katie, Emily, Madison, Davis and Riley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; grandson Mikel; one brother, and a sister.

A Rosary will be held from 10:00 - 10:30 A.M. with a visitation to follow from 10:30 - 11:00 A.M., with the Mass of Christian burial starting at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Robert.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM DEBORAH SCHAVEY RUFF, CLASS OF 1977:

Donna was a graduate of Class of 1948. After graduation, she attended Indiana University in Bloomington, graduating with a teaching degree. While at IU, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Donna met her future husband, Robert Olson, while living and working overseas and married in 1958. Donna lived for over 30 years in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia before relocating back to Greeley, Colorado.
