Jean M. Graham, age 87, of Hobart, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016. She was born on September 3, 1928 in Gary, Indiana. Her parents, Martin and Ruth (nee Smith) Turner, owned and operated the ice business in Hobart.
Jeanie was one of a group who joined the sorority, Phi Beta Tsi, in her senior year in High School, where they learned among other things, how to prepare and serve the perfect cup of coffee. Her business career started in the school’s superior attendance office after graduation; then at Isakson’s Motors where Clarence taught her about cars inside and out. She astounded us with auto trivia our whole lives. She married, had three daughters, did taxes part time, and then was a bookkeeper for Mutual of Omaha, where she retired after 32 years.
She was a charter member of the DAR and BPW, where she was a member and past president. She also was a member of Sweet Adeline’s Calumet Chorus and the Red Hat Society. Jean was a member of the Hobart Book Club with her dear friends from high school, where they met after their monthly lunch. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean is survived by her three daughters, Beth Gard, Nancy Waffler, and Sharon (Terry) Murphy; beloved grandson, Matthew Murphy; twin sister, Joan Smith.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Allan Graham. Her constants were love for her family and music.

A funeral service for Jean will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am with Chaplain Rob Dorow officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana. Burial will take place at Hobart Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
